Grade 5 Christmas Performance

Grade 5 Christmas Performance
By Lucas Baclayon
On December 24, classes 5B, 5C and 5D had a Christmas performance for their fellow classmates at Wagor Elementary School. They started preparing about a month earlier. I took time during their reading classes to quickly teach and review the songs that the students were going to sing. In addition to singing, some of the students were invited to play the piano. Kitty from 5B, Brian and Christina from 5C and Arthur from 5D played the piano brilliantly during the performance. There was also a small group of violins from the three classes that played two songs as well.
The main reason for the performance was to give the students the experience of performing in front of a large group of people, especially those who play musical instruments. Another purpose was to let the students hear some traditional Christmas music performed by foreigners, something that was accomplished by asking four missionaries form the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One song that many people in the audience enjoyed was “O Holy Night” which was sung by Sister Belnap, one of the missionaries.
I hope to find other opportunities to allow his classes and students to have the experience of standing and performing in front of an audience. While these experiences may take time to prepare for, they are rewarding and provide school memories not directly related to the classroom.

Grade 5
